Until the middle of the nineteenth century, these relied on buttons or toggles passing through either button holes or loops of cord. SUBJECT AREA: Textiles[br]fl. c. 1886 USA[br]American patentee of a stud fastener in 1886.[br]From the late nineteenth century, a variety of press fasteners began to appear. In 1885 H.
